On Extraordinarity.

Extraordinarity bias :’ the individual and social tendency to value an object more than others in the same category as a result of an extraordinary property of that object that does not change the value in itself.’

The works exhibited here are the end result of approaches and methods pertaining to an “extraordinarity bias”, and despite being considerably massive and solid, are entirely ephemeral.

The life of all materials used extends itself throughout the larger compositions, becoming animalistic, and a degree of primitive liveliness is evident. The use of automatism in creating these works allows for these forms to be organic in nature, and their parts entirely interchangeable. Any loss or addition of materials comprising the forms is simply a further layer to their history, even up to or possibly beyond the complete destruction of the sculptures. There are and were no previous mock-ups or models created to plan out the finality of the works.

They live, and change, and breathe, and eventually fall into ruin, only to be reincarnated with a richer history, balanced ever-precariously on the line between nostalgia and deja-vu.
